what's the story with the cranks? They look like they would be similar to the hammerschmidt, but they have two rings...

well, as for the story with the crank set, Im not entirely sure. It is similar to the hammerschmidt, in that it has the same mechanisms that increase your leverage, so every turn of the crank equals 1.4 rotations on the rings. But it is a fixed advantage unlike the hammerschmidt which has some internal shifting. apparently it some sort of pro to type. So im not exactly sure what the point of it is. it might be due to height limitations of the front derailleur, because of the bulging to the frame design.
