At first you want to be angry that there is a large sign blocking the newly striped bike lane, and then you read it and anger turns to confusion. Then it all becomes clear the world is full of morons.
Then shortly after I saw this yellow Schwin Varsity which makes me fell all happy and warm inside. Have a good weekend!

City Bike System
This is definitely moving in the right direction. I think there allot of people in the US who would like to see something like this pop up in their city. Perhaps workplaces could even have designated parking areas for these bikes. And residents could pay a fee to have guaranteed usage (a unit which is exclusively available to them at their home) and guaranteed parking at their workplace. We need more system like this in the USA, hopefully people can make it happen. Check out the Public Bike System
"The Public Bike System (PBS) was created to offer an attractive and easy-to-use option for those seeking urban transportation that has less impact on the environment than traditional fuel-powered vehicles, and to act as the perfect complement to public transportation networks."- Public Bike System
"The entire system was designed from a clean sheet, intended to marry the practical with the aesthetic. World-renowned industrial designer Michel Dallaire was entrusted with the design of the physical components. The bikes themselves feature clean lines and a sleek look that in no way compromises their sturdiness and safety. Design elements are carried over to the technical platforms, bike docks and pay stations. All with the intention making the PBS an enhancement to the urban landscape, not an impediment to enjoying it."- Public Bike System

Bikes in Laguna
First of, this Peugeot is awesome. I saw it out of the corner of my eye when I was riding back to work from my lunch break and stopped to take a picture. Looking more closely at the bike I was a little shocked to see a lock wrapped around the seat post, completely unused. But hey this is Laguna beach and right down the street there was this bike:
locked up to a tree, with a fairly unsecure cable lock. If this bike was in New York, and I was taking a picture of it. By they time I was done depressing the shutter, I would get picture of a tree and a cut lock.

Date Me
"Indeed, the bike boom/sexual revolution has found its Ron Jeremy. I picture him wearing a pair of threadbare Nashbar half-shorts and pedaling a Schwinn Varsity conversion. Disgusting." -Bikesnob / RTMS

What do you think?
The placement of this seems like a bad idea to me. It's cool to see whats behind you, but if you have to look that far down. Plus one big hit and your Ipod will likely die, cool looking bike otherwise though. Pacific cycles owns the technology for the internal drive system, I would like to try it on a higher end bike to see if it's got potential.

GAS
"Oil prices shot up more than $10 to a new record above $139 Friday after a major investment bank predicted a spike to $150 in the coming weeks and rising tensions in the Middle East left investors uneasy about supply."
Update: Oil closed at $138.54, according to this report on LATimes.com, which quotes a gas station owner predicting a 10-cent rise in gas prices later today:" - La Times

Dana Point Grand Prix
There was a race in Dana Point, this weekend right down the street from my house and while I did not not enter I still felt compelled to blog abut it. It was a cit cours with some very tight high speed turns, such as the one pictured above. In the morning there were amateur heats and a whole masters series (30-50 years old), then there were kids races, and cat 3 and cat pro 1 & 2 races in the after noon.
The Pro race started at 4:30, I arrived fashionably late only to come face to face, with minions of "The King of the Pants".
It seems though Mr. Ball was not in attendance,
he did send however send a stand in.
he did send however send a stand in.
Thats right Floyd Landis was in attendance, his role in the race being something like a celebrity master of ceremonies. Rock Racing even won the race, with a strong showing on the podium clearly here to stay. I can already hear Michael Ball chanting, "Tour de France, here I come!"
Lots of people came out to watch, there were kids on brake less fixies.
People in causal clothing ridding on insanely expensive wheels.
And this lady:
Can't wait till next year see you there!

Dura Ace 7900 official release
Here's the new Dura Ace, looks allot more like campy.
Also the hoods look very similar to SRAM.
But they still don't have the balls to make the carbon crank standard.
